The Colorado Wine Company is one of the more recent commercial establishments that has been welcomed by all sectors of the Eagle Rock (over 21) community. For news of their weekly Friday evening and Sunday afternoon winetastings and other items of interest, check out www.cowineco.com. Be sure to sign up for John's biweekly email newsletter and learn about their Friday and Sunday winetasting offerings, Sangria Saturdays, as well as other humorously written tidbits about what's happening in the wine world at our favorite local hangout.

Within view of the Neutra designed recreation center and the Eagle Rock, the Eagle Rock Childcare Center has only been in use a couple of years.

Eagle Rock recreation center, designed by Richard Neutra in the International Style in 1953 and was designated a cultural historical monument #536 in 1991 by the City of Los Angeles. This interesting building was restored within the last few years and offers uses as an outdoor theater where the free summer concerts are held, a gymnasium inside, park offices and restrooms, and a continuing delight for midcentury architecture enthusiasts. The famous Eagle Rock. Can you see the eagle in flight there? There is a Native American legend surrounding the rock, more on that elsewhere. The question for today is, can you figure out where I was when I took this photo?

One of the historic sites in Eagle Rock is the 20th Century Women's Club at 5015 Hermosa, on the corner of Colorado Blvd. Built by the husbands to create a space for the women to gather, this 1914 Craftsman style building has been saved and preserved by the current generations of women who now hold great fundraising events like this one, the spring fashion show called Happy Days, 2006. Everyone was involved from kids to grandmas, from bikers to hotrodders to our own Elvis impersonator. Hamburgers and hotdogs were served and fun was had by all.
